Where to Find First Imperial Credit Union Under Its New Name

First Imperial Credit Union now operates as Corazo Credit Union. California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation recorded the name change as effective September 8, 2025. Yet our Calexico Chamber business directory still displays two entries under the former name. We want residents to find current information. Check details before visiting or changing a payment.

What changed and what did not

Corazo is the institution’s new name, following a rebranding announced to members in 2025. The credit union’s own announcement said the change did not signal a sale or merger, and that the member-owned organization would continue. A new brand does not establish an account transfer.

That earlier announcement cannot verify every customer’s present account details. Confirm account-specific changes with Corazo directly. Do not assume instructions in an unexpected text are part of the name change.

For local searches, use Corazo Credit Union as the current business name.

Use the current Calexico location

Our business directory shows the former First Imperial name twice at 2534 Rockwood Avenue, Unit 1-A. Those directory records are outdated. Corazo’s published branch listing identifies the Calexico office at 1010 E Cole Blvd, Calexico, CA 92231, with the phone number (760) 352-1540.

One record comes from our older directory; the other comes from Corazo’s branch listing. For a quick comparison, these are the two different addresses readers may encounter:

Record Address shown
Older Chamber entries 2534 Rockwood Avenue, Unit 1-A — legacy listing
Current Corazo branch listing 1010 E Cole Blvd, Calexico, CA 92231

Check current branch hours and available services through the institution before traveling. We do not manage member accounts. Verify any map result pointing to Rockwood Avenue.

Verify messages that mention a new name

A genuine name change gives scammers a plausible subject for a message. Verify any unexpected urgent login request. The National Credit Union Administration offers advice to help people recognize suspicious banking messages.

Do not let an urgent tone dictate your response. Before responding to a call, email or payment request, use these checks:

  • Find the institution’s official site or phone number independently, instead of following a link in the message;
  • Do not give an unexpected caller a one-time verification code, password or full account credentials;
  • Compare the requested action with notices available through a verified account channel;
  • Contact the credit union yourself if a sender asks you to redirect a transfer or change payment instructions.

Caller ID and familiar logos are not enough to prove who sent a message. If you already shared sensitive information, contact the institution through a trusted number and ask about appropriate account-protection steps.

Check account protection through the right agency

Insurance depends on the institution and account. The NCUA administers the federal Share Insurance Fund for federally insured credit unions. Its consumer guide can help you check how credit union share insurance works, including the general coverage rules and account-ownership categories.

Do not use an old directory logo as verification. Confirm the credit union’s insurance status using current NCUA records or by contacting the agency. For federally insured credit unions, coverage depends on eligible accounts and ownership arrangements; the usual $250,000 basic coverage rule has important account-category details.

FDIC insurance applies to eligible deposits at FDIC-insured banks, so use the appropriate agency when researching a credit union. If your account structure is complicated, ask the institution and regulator for information specific to that arrangement.

Help us keep Calexico listings current

A directory is most helpful when an old business name leads people to the correct current one. For our records, that means distinguishing a historical entry from a verified operating location. Our two First Imperial listings require a review because they still show the former name and Rockwood Avenue address.

If you represent a Calexico business that has moved, changed its name or updated its contact details, please contact our Chamber office with information we can check. We welcome accurate local updates, but an inquiry to the Chamber is not a substitute for speaking with the credit union about an account.

Send public business details, never private financial documents.

Two quick questions after the change

Should I search using the old name? Both names can help you recognize historical references. For current branches, check Corazo’s listing.

Should I change a payment after an unexpected text? Hold off until you have independently confirmed the request with the credit union. A name change is not proof that new payment instructions are legitimate. Contact the institution using a verified number or its official account-access channel.

This Chamber update is for local information only. For account-specific instructions, contact the credit union through independently verified official channels.
